Montauk Trip – March 19, 2026
What do you do when the weather forecast in the middle of March is in the mid to high 80’s and no rain in the forecast? The logical answer is head to Montauk to see if the trout wanted to play. Jim Craig, Harold Bates and I (Larry Mangels) made it to the park by 8:30 and were on the river before 9:00.
The park wasn’t crowded and the fish were ready to play. Jim had a lot of success with his Euro rod and Harold was killing it with his dry dropper rig. We all had lunch together and then back to the river. The activity slowed down a bit after lunch, but beauty of the park didn’t change. We all met up back at the car at 4:30. Another wonderful day for several FATC brothers on the river.
On the way home, we stopped for a fellowship dinner at BJ Malones in Salem MO. A very enjoyable way to finish off a great day at Montauk.
