Just returned from a Colorado trip and fished the Cheesman Canyon for the first time ever. What a beautiful place to fish!! You have to be in decent shape to walk in and out of the canyon so prepare yourself before you go. I read where you should carry your waders and boots to hike in – not so. You can easily hike in with waders and wading boots on. Also, they say if you can catch fish in Cheesman canyon you can catch fish anywhere. Probably because the trout spook easily, the flies at times have to be small and presentation has to be perfect. We did catch fish – but had to work hard for them. Every fish we caught put on an aerobatic show after being hooked. If you want any info about fishing Cheesman ask us and we can put you in the game.
Have you ever fished Cheesman Canyon? What was your experience?
It’s a beautiful place! Only a couple guide services have a permit to guide customers in Cheeseman. Pat Dorsey from Blue Quill Anglers is a suggestion if you want to go the guide route. However, you can fish without a guide. Just plan on working hard for them and be stealthy.
