In winter fly fishing it can be very cold – below freezing to be exact. We dress warm. Our heads and ears are covered, our fingertips are protected, our toes are toasty. But, don’t forget about Mr Trout (and NOT the the Angels baseball player). Try your best during below freezing temperatures to keep your catch in the water when releasing. Yes, we all want that hero picture but remember the longer you keep your catch in the freezing air it can “freeze” it’s gills and give it less of a chance to survive when you release it. Hero shots are great but do it quickly and release your trout quickly. Just saying.
