Trips: The “Cold” Blue River, Colorado

Here is a fishing report from Matt McClure who is vacationing in Colorado visiting his son. He took a day away to fish the Blue river near Dillon. Colorado.  It was cold but a fantastic adventure!
Here’s a brief fishing report.  I had the opportunity to fish below the Dillon, CO Reservoir on the Blue River.  Temperatures hovered in the low 30’s.  I bundled up and began my trek of sight fishing the colorful bows that consume protein rich Mysis Shrimp that flow out of the depths of Dillon Dam.  Fishing was great with only two other people in sight.  In other words very little pressure.  I targeted fish with a dual rig #22 mysis shrimp along with #24 blood worm midge with peacock herl.  Had success on both flys equally.  For those who haven’t experienced CO in Winter / early Spring it’s a great time to fish with typically minimal pressure.
