Trips: Lake Taneycomo 2022 #3 – The Last Hurrah?

Well, what could be the last group, Lake Taneycomo trip was completed this past weekend. With the generation flow for Lake Taneycomo so unpredictable these days it is just too hard to “plan” a good trip. One where we actually fish Lake Taneycomo.

On this trip five FATC members, again, were unable to fish Lake Taneycomo during the weekend. Kenny Klimes, Ron Fiala (Chicago), Mike Harvey (Ohio), Derrik Kassebaum, and Bill Keenum were scheduled on this last Lake Taneycomo trip.

On Friday, Kenny, Ron, Derrik, and Bill met up at Bennett Spring State Park for about five hours of fishing. It was a good day for all, and it seemed the smaller the fly the better the catching was. Mike was in Arkansas with his wife and daughter so he would meet us all in Branson on Friday evening. But the guys that fished Bennett did well with a lot of fish in the net. That night they enjoyed Mexican food and got to know each other. For many it was the first time they met each other.

On Saturday, the guys headed to Roaring River State Park. They fished the fly only area and again found tiny flies were the best. It seems that Bill holds a special place in his heart for Roaring River. You will just have to ask him about it. The fly only area was not crowded at all although the park was. After fishing the guys again returned to the condominium for a big pasta dinner and some NCAA basketball. What was the best, was the fellowship that all experienced getting to know each other

On Sunday, the group split up as Ron and Kenny joined Mike at Roaring River again. Mike was to meet up with his wife at the park for his trip home to Ohio on Sunday evening and Monday. So, Kenny and Ron joined him to fish. Bill and Derrik headed back to St Louis via Rockbridge. They were going for the BIG fish that Rockbridge has – even though the price is a little steep.

The Taneycomo trip was successful in one respect – fellowship. We enjoyed each other’s company and as soon as the guys got out of Kenny’s kitchen they relaxed. And where did the idea that Ron looks like John Wayne come from??Sorry, that this will be the last trip to Lake Taneycomo. Future trips will probably be last minute trips. You just cannot count on Taneycomo generation flow to be low enough to wade fish. Maybe we will plan another place. Best way to get on a trip? – is plan one yourself! It is not hard!
