Forum Home › General Discussions › Loop Knot vs Traditional knot tying on a Nymphs?
I’m curious to get your thoughts about loop knots vs traditional knots like a davy knot or clinch knot tying on a nymph/emerger/dry fly patterns to your tippet. I know a loop knot is suggested to use when tying on a streamer. The loop knot supposed to give a streamer better movement to look realistic. But, WHY not a loop knot hardly suggested to tye on a nymph/emerger/dry, wouldn’t it give more movement to this fly patterns?
Just trying to improve my chances of putting fish in the net. Especially since we have some down time with the pandemic to think about this type of stuff!?!?
Thank you!
Mike
I have read of people tying loop knots on jigs and nymphs and tying dry flys on the line sideways so they will skitter. I think most people just use regular Knots like the Davy knot and Clinch knot because they are easier and quicker to tie. I don’t worry too much about it since I only fish for the stupid trout anyway.

Wow. Mike, that is deep. Are you trying to upset a 100+ years of traditional, classic fly fishing?
I guess that is ok.
Grasshopper,
Loop knot, Double Davy, Clinch knot or whatever, most important to do is tie your knots well!!
