Another evening fishing trip for the FATC took place this past Tuesday evening to Maramec Spring park. The park was again fairly empty as the guys arrived around 3:15pm on this ridiculously hot day. On some days you fish to catch fish, on other days you fish to practice a technique and on others you fish to try a new technique. All in all we should always be learning and that’s what we did on this trip. We practiced swinging some small flies in the fast current, trying to entice the trout to take. Once they did we practiced how to set the hook for a good hook set. We were successful a few times.
When we started our fishing afternoon, Bill found a Kingfisher bird trapped in some mono-filament line left inn the trees by an inconsiderate fisherman. You can see from the pictures that Bill got the bird released – great job Bill!! The flies used this evening were soft hackles, juju baetis, barr’s emerger, scuds, mohair leeches and a few others. The fish weren’t as aggressive as they usually are but we did catch some fish. The evening bite is good and it is cooler so get out and try an evening of fishing.
Nice going with the Kingfisher Bill!
Bill is the consummate practitioner of catch and release!
