Trips: Trifecta!!!

Here’s a trip report from Dave Beerbower who is fishing in West North Carolina/ Virginia:
I knew it was there for the taking, so this morning I hit my favorite spot on the Watauga. It was stocked on April 1, and the river had lots of fish. The first one in the net was the Brookie, so I was stoked. Next were several rainbows and after about an hour of fishing, I got the brown. I also got another Brookie but could not get another brown for the double trifecta. Maybe next time. The Crane fly larva was all they were taking today in brown, grey and black. I tried several others flies like a hares ear, soft hackles, dry flies and cracklebacks, but the mop was all they wanted. I finished the morning with a 16” rainbow right in front of two App State students who had their mouths wide open. Hee hee. All in all, one of the best days I have ever had up here and that is saying something.
