Another trip on the calendar has come and gone. Jim Craig, Kenny Klimes, Don Varner, Dave Beerbower, Vernon Preston, and Dan Staggenborg met up at Maramec Spring Park to fish the park and outside the park. The group split up as Jim and Kenny headed downstream to check the waters in the Meramec river, Dave, Dan, and Vernon concentrated on fishing the “bend” outside the park and Don stayed in the park. Jim and Kenny caught a few fish in the river as they traveled all the way to Dry Creek and then fished the “bend” during the afternoon. They had an opportunity to watch the eagle’s nest that is downstream. Here they saw four eagles: three fledglings and one adult. Did you know that bald eagles aren’t really bald? No, those are white feathers!!
Dan, Vernon, and Dave fished the bend with sporadic luck. It seemed that Dan had the best day as he dead drifted a black woolybuggers – highly successful. Don had a tough day in the park but did end the day on a high note with a nice sized rainbow.
The day overall was sunny and hot. A great day for the beach but not my ideal type of day to fly fish. NOW, let’s talk about the “stink”. I’m not proud of it but it happens – to be honest – it rarely happens to me. But hey, I’m human too! The last three trips I have been on I have had the “stink” and I can shake it. Three trips – two trout, one trout – one trout – unheard of!! So, I’m trying to get the “stink” off in a bad way. I will be heading to Wisconsin soon to fish in a Musky tournament and I promise I will get rid of the “stink” in Northern Wisconsin and keep it there. Hopefully, this will make you feel better cause we all get the “stink” once in awhile (just I rarely get it – ?)
Just a quick note – we ate at Missouri Pizza in St James. We have put them on probation for the time being. It is the sixth time they have messed up the orders or just forgot to make them. We’ll have a discussion with “Bubba” soon.
