Trips – Snuck Out to Alaska?

Guys,

I spent the last week in June through the first week in July vacationing in Alaska, and snuck in some fly-fishing time.

On the Kenai peninsula, our fishing guide took us down the upper Kenai river down to the Russian river on a float boat.  We caught Dolly Varden Trout in the 20” to 22” range (I was fly casting a streamer and my wife was dropping a plug down the stream with a spin reel).   This is quite a large river with strong currents. Our guide worked hard with the oars to get us in some great places.

From the Denali lodge, my guide drove me toward the Talkeetna mountain range to a remote spot.  We then trekked along a moose trail for 20 minutes to a small crystal-clear mountain run off creek.  I was casting a mosquito fly over the deep holes in the creek, and the Arctic Grayling were being caught every 5-10 minutes!  Another great fishing day.
