Decided to check out Maramec Spring Park again for just a half day. Sometimes in the winter there isn’t a good reason to get there too early. As the day warms up, the hatches can kick off and get the trout stirring. And yes, it happened like that. A few BWO hatches but there was a huge midge hatch that seemed to turn the trout on in the afternoon.
Aha, caught you!! There are guys that read and use our website trip reports that do not belong to our fellowship!! And why not? Please join us and reap all the benefits of this great brotherhood of men.
We arrived around 10:30 and fished until 4pm. We fished inside and outside of the park. Just a few browns were caught outside the park with no sign of a November stocking yet. An orange tatoo was for October stocking. If you see a different color let me know asap. But BIG fish were caught in the park. If you get hold of a big rainbow please fight him quickly and take a long time reviving before you release him.
Nymphs and larva patterns seemed to do the best. Big fish of the day were one 19 1/2″ and two 18 1/2″ with numerous other smaller rainbows browns caught. Can’t stress enough that winter fishing is some of the best here in Missouri so don’t miss out. Check our FATC calendar for trips and see you on the water.
