Dave Beerbower (remember me?) and my son in law Luke Birchenough decided it was time to try the Watauga River tailwaters in Tennessee this past Saturday with our guide Travis from Due South Outfitters here in Boone, NC. The day started early and there was a forecast of 50% rain showers. After the hour trip to the River, we set out to drift the River for the full day. Using a two dropper rig with bead head pheasant tails, we started catching fish right away. The River has wild browns and stocked rainbows. The morning was fantastic as we netted about 25 fish ranging from 12”-16”. The cloud cover cleared and the fishing got tougher after lunch, but we ended with about 35 fish for the day. Three browns and the rest rainbows. No rain! All in all a great time on a very scenic River.
