Jim Craig made a last minute decision to take his buddy, Scott Payne, to Cardiac Hill to fish before the snow hit the local area. Scott had never fished the Cardiac Hill area on the Meramec river. Jim made even a better move by inviting Kenny Klimes (who is always ready to fish) to join them. They left the commuter lot around 8:30am and fished until about 4pm. The weather was cold and hazy as the snow warnings were scheduled for the following day. They fished first upstream at the triple run and worked their way to Suicide hill area by the end of the day. Both rainbows and browns were caught with the rainbows being the larger of the two species.
Best flies were the mohair leeches, cerise worms, red soft hackles and anything else that was red. The fishing was tough most of the day with about 13-14 fish caught. Cardiac Hill area is a beautiful area to fish with no crowds – you pretty much have the entire area to yourself. In the Spring, when the water warms up again, Cardiac Hill should produce more fish to the net.
