Here is a report from Larry Farrar on a recent trip to Montauk:
Thursday evening September 20th and Friday morning September 21st. We still have the humidity here in Missouri and a few rain showers kept things damp. The water is very clear and low but the stream has a lot of leery fish in it. Fish were caught on San Juan worms (light colors), white midges and pheasant tail nymphs Thursday evening. I hoped to fish with a soft hackle fly Friday morning but it poured and the fish didn’t want that fly. I switched to a bead head pheasant tail nymph with a worm dropper and the bite was on. During the rain the fish took both flies whether fished in slow or fast water. By mid morning the rain moved on but the humidity hung around just to keep things sticky. It was a quick trip but the fishing was productive. Make sure you get out in the next few weeks as the catch and keep season comes to an end.
