Here is a report from Matt McClure on their trip to Montauk, Friday, December 28th:
“Montauk” with special guests No-Hands Sid, Brian Meisenheimer & Matt McClure.
The three of us fished Montauk on Friday, December 28th. Weather was a little challenging due to above normal wind conditions and lower 30’s temperature. Average for everyone was around a dozen fish in the net. The majority of the fish were caught stripping white and olive green Wooly Buggers along with a few on the mop fly. Sid Aslin introduced Brian and I on a new way to take photos of your catch while reducing the stress on the fish. (See Photos). He calls it the “No-Hands Sid Technique”. This technique may very well be taught at Kenny’s next Fly Fishing class. The fish were all nice size with healthy girth’s averaging in the 14-16 range. Lunch provided us an opportunity to warm up. We devoured Lunker Burgers at the Lodge. Prior to heading back out after lunch I caught Sid trying to buy fish pellets for chumming. I kindly reminded him he could not do that in the fly only area so he put it back.
There continues to be very little fishing pressure in the parks so you have the run of the river. If you haven’t been on the water over the catch and release season I would encourage you to go.
Happy New Year to All!
Nice report. Once again, Sid stands out as a trail blazer in this sport. You never know that he is going to come up with. By the way, what are those gloves he is wearing??? I think we need an explanation.

Picked up a 20 count bag at Home Depot for $5.48. Used them on 2 trips. What a difference these make in winter along with a pair fingerless fleece gloves. I’m sold. Won’t be winter fishing without them.
