Trips: New Grad – Good Day

It was time to take another new FATC member to the water for graduation.  John Walker set up the trip and as a FATC Instructor cadre had the pleasure of graduating Aaron Watson.  Aaron was in the Tower Grove class that we had last Fall. Four others joined John and Aaron – Miles Meyer, Al “O” Angiocchi, Jim Craig, Al Blair and Kenny Klimes.  The trip was to Montauk on this Friday.

John and Aaron went out to practice casting and different techniques while the rest hit the cool waters of the Montauk spring. Overall the hot day wasn’t too bad as the cool waters made the fishing area comfortable.  Everyone did well using an number of flies from wooly buggers, soft hackles, son of san juan worms, scuds, midges, RS2, etc… The trout were caught in their usual hideouts but more in the faster moving waters.

Aaron graduated quickly with John by his side and proceeded to catch fish throughout the day. He did have a lot of hookups and lost one very nice fish.  He seemed to be excited about this new adventure – fly fishing. And I’m sure he’ll be back for more.

The guys stopped fishing at around 4:30pm and headed for pizza at Missouri Pizza in St James.  Great day of fishing and great day of fellowship – as always
