Four FATC members came together to fish Montauk on a Friday. Waking up to thunder and lightning while driving to the commuter lot at 5:45 am at 109 and 44 was a bit much but once we all arrived the rain had stopped and all four of us were able to travel to Montauk in Bob’s truck. Thanks Bob!! Attendees included: Steve Baker, Bob Hassett, Scott Dougherty and Will Black.
The park was not over crowded and the fishing was excellent today. Weather was overcast in the morning and the sun was shining all afternoon. Clear water throughout the Current river and flow rate was fine. Will caught 15 Rainbow trouts mainly in the afternoon but some in the morning. He was on fire! Steve caught so many fish that he lost count! Scott caught four rainbows but they were all major fighters. Bob landed eight trout as well.
The big hurt was discussed and utilized. Purple midges were hitting, Red zebra midges were striking well and almond colored Woolys pulled in trout as well. The Klinkhammer fly was thrown in too and worked for Will. Hopper dropper rig set ups and nymph under indicator won the afternoon for these four fellows. Everyone had a blast today and the weather was perfect after a stormy start to the day. Dinner was at our new favorite place – American Taco in Rolla. This was a great day among FATC members.
