Over Halloween weekend I traveled to Branson with my wife and some friends to enjoy down time and of course go fishing. Our friends build and manage large vacation rentals (look at that view!) and provide the backdrop for the outing. I’m thankful for their hospitality and feel free to look them up if you’re coming down with a group! https://secondmilerentals.com/
On Thursday I managed to sneak out for a while and catch a some fish, including a nice brown on a 20 Griffiths Gnat during a hatch. I could only fish for an hour before I headed on over to the Kimberling City church of Christ to help with their Trunk-or-Treat. Can you believe they had over 2,500 people come and attend!!! It was a great success!
The rest of the weekend I fished during the day and socialized at night. Lots of good fish including two over 20”! I threw the fly box at ‘em and finally found some winning combinations. The winners were a red San Juan worm for most rainbows and the browns were loving a 18 Primrose & Pearl…even though it was overcast/raining. Several dozen fish in the net over the course of the weekend made for some good times. As always, made some new friend on the water, including this fellow named Joe with a nice brown! Of the oft reported fungus at LTC, I can say that I only saw two fish affected and caught none.
I was also able to take a friend fly fishing for the first time! It was great seeing his excitement when connecting with a fish! However, the learning curve while fly fishing is steep and sadly none made it in the net. Better luck next time….he was already asking about where to purchase some gear (his wife may hate me now) ;).
We continue to pray for those folks who have been affected by the flooding, especially the good people at Montauk. Hoping for a great recovery for an awesome fishery. However, a change in scenery and a new challenge can be a good thing as we head into catch and release season.
