Trips: Fulton Fishing

Dave Beerbower sent us this report of his fly fishing trip to Fulton, Missouri, proving that you don’t need waders or to fall in when catching big trout!   Looks like the boys had a good day!

Dave Beerbower, Gary Elliot, Jim Franke and Craig Dull decided to try a little lake fishing in Fulton Mo. on a bright but windy day. The lake in Morningside Park in Fulton was stocked by the state and is under catch and release rules until February. Rumor has it they placed 800 trout in the small pond, so expectations were high. We arrived at 10:30am and started catching fish right away. Gary caught a bass to start us off and the rest were all nice sized, plump trout. As the day wore on the catching increased. The takes were very subtle and it took awhile to adjust to recognizing when you had a fish on. The wind played havoc with the casting, but it was good practice on long casts into the wind. We finished around 2:30 and everyone caught lots of fish and was arm weary, so we had a late lunch at the 1851 Underground Tap and Grill. Great burgers! Great day.
