FATC member Bill Lowry was traveling to Africa this summer and grabbed a fly rod for the day. here is his report:
I took a morning off while on safari in Zambia, Africa to go fly fishing for Tiger Fish on the Zambezi River. The fishing report wasn’t encouraging since it is winter in Africa with cold water temperatures and spin casting with live bait preferred rather than fly fishing.
The Zambezi is a beautiful river and much larger than any previous experience. Fishing was from a four passenger boat since wading is highly discouraged. Equipment used was a 9 weight, 9 foot rod with sinking line and heavy streamer flies. No fish were caught but the experience was unforgettable and recommended if you are in the area.
Bill, fantastic fotos and great attempt to fly fish Africa! Can we expect more wild kingdom fishing adventures in the future? Personally I prefer to do my casting in which I am not part of the food chain!
