Trips: Floating The Roaring Fork!

Here is a trip report from Dave Beerbower on his float trip down the Roaring Fork River in Colorado!

On June 19th, Dave Beerbower and son-in-law Luke Birchenough shared a full day guided drift boat trip down the Roaring Fork river from Carbondale to Glenwood Springs, CO. This is a beautiful section of water covering 12 miles with Class III and II rapids. Our guide Scott was out of the Frying Pan Anglers shop in Basalt. I highly recommend them if you are out that way.
Because we wanted to dry fly fish, we started at 2 pm and fished until sunset. Standing while fishing was a real challenge, especially for me, but the leg supports in the boat really helped. All of the fish in this river are native and beautifully colored. We caught rainbows and browns. We fished the banks and soft water all the way down and there were some green drakes and millions of caddis flies hatching, especially at dusk. The prince nymphs also did well. A magical day.
