Jim Craig, Glenn Haake & Matt McClure recently embarked on a fishing float trip with our kayaks from Baptist Camp to Parkers Ford. The weather was phenomenal including the fishing. We were eager to check out how much the river had changed and the fish population since the flood occurred. The river was in good shape with lots of new holes to fish. It definitely had changed. Previous holes were no longer existent however many new ones were formed. The fishing was consistent the entire float with many fish caught. Flies used were orange Egg, green Perdigon, Ruby 2 midge, House of Payne, Little White Thing, and several others. A mixture of bows & browns were caught along the way. This was an extended trip as the day before our float we spent some time at Tan Vat where the fishing was consistent with Glenn even catching some on soft hackles and dries. The day after our float we met up with Steve Bakers group trip and fished in the park. It appeared that everyone caught a substantial amount of fish. Several fished in the spring branch where there weren’t as many fish but fish size was larger. Others fished in the campgrounds area where there were thousands of fish (due to the flood) with many small ones. If you haven’t had the opportunity to get back to Montauk since before the flood I suggest carving out some time to get down there or another Missouri river and enjoy the great outdoors with your fellow FATC members.
