Trips: Current River All Day

Kenny Klimes, Ron Berger, Sam McClure and a mystery man fished the Current river on this Monday. They started out at Tan Vat in the morning to find themselves with the entire section all to themselves.  Fishing was good as Kenny practiced his euro nymphing techniques with much success.  Several browns were caught all in the 9 – 11 inch range and one nice 15 inch rainbow. Ron even caught his first brown ever (see picture of him and no brown since it flipped out of his hand). The gang worked down river for about two hours and then jumped in the car and drove to and fished below the Montauk cable. Fishing there was fair as the guys just fished to the 90 degree bend and quit for lunch. Ron discovered that he was going to Aldi all these years and not Aldi’s. But he did know all about Sweet and Spicy Cajun trail mix!! “Jim, that’s where it’s all going to Ron’s house!!”

In the afternoon we went into the park and started at the top near the spring.  The fish are loaded in this section as they were pretty much throughout the park. Everyone got into more fish but all rainbows here.  The best flies for the day seemed to be pheasant tails and scuds (euro-nymphing style), cerise worms, small San Juan worms, soft hackles, Primrose and pearl midges. As the summer comes to a close and with most schools starting up in a week the parks are getting less crowded.  Yes, it’s still hot but cool temps are approaching so get out there and jump on a trip.
