As the Rolling Stones’ song says, “You can’t always get what you want – but you get what you need” that is how our first Lake Taneycomo (LT) trip of the year went (March 17-19). After the floods from three weeks ago, our chances of good LT fishing was diminished. Table Rock lake is high and the water is being released into LT. But it seems like the guys had a great time fishing parts of LT, Roaring River and Bennett Spring over the weekend. Here are some pictures and excerpts from what was said about the trip.
From Dave Beerbower: We were there last weekend and the dam was making the river unfishable. They scheduled one generator, but did not keep to the posted generation schedule. Even when they were running 50MW, the flow was over 3000cfs. Most of the time they were running 3 units with flows over 5000cfs. We could only get 3’ from the bank and the drifts lasted all of 3-4 seconds. Our group did manage to net three fish on Friday afternoon, but opted for Roaring River on Saturday and Bennett Springs on Sunday on the way home. Both of those parks were very busy, but we caught fish and it was much better for all.
From Jim Franke: Dave, Thanks for organizing the trip! It was a great a time and brings to mind the quote on the Flyfishers at the Crossing website: One thing becomes clearer as one gets older and one’s fishing experience increases, and that is the paramount importance of one’s fishing companions.
From Craig Dull: Dave, et al – I want to echo Jim’s sentiments about this weekend. In spite of the challenging fishing conditions, the food and the fellowship made it a memorable trip.
From Bob Beckett – This was an excellent group of fly fishermen to spend a weekend with. Good meals and excellent stories were the norm. Everyone pitched in to make this a memorable trip. Although we could not control TRD’s flow schedule, that didn’t affect the “Can Do” spirit of our group. Thanks to everyone for making this trip one for our memory books. I am looking forward to our next adventure. Maybe Rockbridge in the Fall?
