Trip Report
July 12 & 13
Boulder, CO

I was in Boulder, CO on business and spent a few extra days fishing Boulder Creek above Boulder Falls. From downtown Boulder, it’s an easy 10 miles up the mountain on Boulder Canyon Drive (Route 119). It’s been a heat wave with temperatures hitting 100 degrees. It was great to wet wade and feel the cool water. The water was fast and the fish were easily spooked. Some of the areas were harder to access and many of the boulders were slippery. Boulder Creek is all ripples and in some areas, the water was shallow. However, those were the places where I caught fish. There weren’t many pools, however, fish were hiding under fallen trees and near boulders. The most successful fly was swinging a soft hackle. There were lots of hatches and a dozen hits on Caddis. I had to use a lot of different techniques to catch some of the smaller fish. All in all, it was a great trip. The scenery was well worth it.
Shout out to Front Range Anglers (local fly shop) in Boulder, CO for help on where to fish and which flies to use.
