Friday, we had ten FATC fish together at Montauk and it was a big day for all. Bill Lowry, Miles Meyer, Barry Dunnegan, Jim Craig, Al Blair, Kenny Klimes, Scott Dougherty, Patrick Gallagher, Jerry Lybarger, and Mike Harvey joined forces and headed down to Montauk on this beautiful day. Mike Harvey, who moved to Ohio, was in the area for work and took off the day to fish with us again. It was great to visit with Mike and fish with him again. Patrick, drove in from Ft Leonardwood, and took some leave to wet a line with his fellowship brothers. On a side note, Patrick and his Mayfly Project team are doing some awesome things for foster kids in mid Missouri. If you would be interested in helping with the Mayfly Project here in Missouri, please contact us. We will get you in contact with Patrick. And on a final note, Scott was out to graduate and catch his first trout on a fly rod. So, a lot of fishing and fellowship were going on!!
The park was crowded in the morning but thinned out later in the afternoon. Give it another month and the parks will be empty again – don’t forget to fish outside the parks for some awesome fishing too. The guys caught fish on a myriad of flies. Some had better luck in the morning and others in the afternoon. Dry flies, midges, and wet flies all caught fish. Many guys site fished as the water is very clear and slow. But the best part of the trip was the fellowship with guys we haven’t seen in awhile – renewing friendships!!
Oh, are you wondering if Scott graduated?? He did. In all my years of teaching on the water I have never seen anyone so excited that he caught a fish. I couldn’t stop laughing. (you better study, Scott!!!). Scott had many fish on but netted three nice rainbows. So it was a good day. We ended by eating at a new BBQ place we found just outside of Montauk. I can’t stress enough that this fellowship is “Not about the fly fishing” and it came out during our fellowship dinner after fishing. Great trip with more to come!!
Thanks Kenny for your guidance! I couldn’t have caught those fish without your instruction! “…give em 10 seconds of fame” Awesome time and great meeting everyone! and you got your indicator back… Scott
