Trip to Baptist Camp
Bob Hassett, Harold Bates, and Ken Welter took advantage of the nice weather on Friday
January 23 to head to Baptist Camp. We were especially interested in getting to Browntown to
stir up some action. We also had hopes of maybe getting to Ashley Creek junction, but didn’t
make it.
Harold used his trusty phone map to guide us to the access without any side trips! So we arrived
about 8:30 am. One other vehicle with two Wash U law students were fishing, so that was good.
While taking the trail to Brown Town for some reason everyone was talking about bears and
looking for tracks. No sightings.
Action seemed slow, so getting the flies down was the most promising route. Harold Euro
nymphed with LWT(little white thing) and HOP. Ken nymphed with a variety of flies. Bob
nymphed with LWT, HOP, and a perdigon. Water was low.
We all thought it was slow. There were 8 fish netted amongst the three of us. However, we
thoroughly enjoyed the day., except for Bob driving over a tree limb on YY with his cataract
clouded vision(Harold didn’t yell soon enough!).
Diner? Of course it was at American Taco in Rolla!
