Events: Ronald McDonald House Work Day

For those that don’t know RMH is an American non-profit organization that creates funds and supports programs to improve the health and well being of children and their families. Here the St. Louis chapter provides comfort, care and a home-away-from-home for families of severely ill children.  Please get on line for more info and education of the local chapter.
As you know FATC has been providing 4 meals/year to the local RMH which has been a rewarding experience for all involved.  Now we are capable and willing to do more.
Mike Oldani, Jeff Rabe, and Ken Welter graciously volunteered at a late one week notice to help with a 3 hour work detail at the West Pine House.  We were originally scheduled for the afternoon but with the forecast changing to sleet and snow everyone was able to switch to a 9:00 AM start.  The rain kept us from moving furniture and supplies from a storage area so Kelsey Cripe (the family service manager) pivoted to having our group clean an apartment and ready it for a new family to move in.  I arrived after making supply runs to the other houses to see Mike, Jeff and Ken cleaning feverishly and even heard about some small repairs that were made.  Kelsey came in and was really impressed and so grateful that I’m sure word will spread to the other houses about the good men from FATC who are willing to give their time, energy and talents to help.  Of course the bonus for the four of us was the chance to meet and connect.  I’m sure more of you will jump on board as more opportunities arise and remember:
“One good deed is better than one thousand good intentions”  (one of my favorite quotes I use to tell my students – sometimes attributed to Confucius, although Oscar Wilde said “the smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intentions” – so who knows?)

Keep a watch for more to come, Paul Jacoby

UPDATE: Note from the organizer at RMH

Good morning,

First, I hope you all made it home safely yesterday and stayed warm!

Second, I just wanted to reach out and say thank you all soooo much for all your assistance yesterday in our apartment cleaning!   Your crew saved our staff over a days’ worth of work, which means we will be able to get this family into this apartment sooner!

I truly appreciate your dedication, hard work, and positive attitudes!  If you would like to complete any more service hours, please keep us in mind!  I would love to have you back!!

Thank you

Kelsey Cripe
