Trips: Deserted Montauk?

Sid Aslin sent in this trip report. Sid and Tim Klotz checked out Montauk this past week:

“Two good friends and F A T C members Sid Aslin and Tim Klotz fished “deserted Montauk” and for the most part had the entire park to themselves, however with this virus scare and no more stocking found finding fish very difficult!

Presently Sid’s favorite way of fishing is his version of site fishing where he sees a lot of fish in an area and goes after them or if he really wants a challenge seeks to find ones in as shallow of water as possible and sneak up on them to see if they will take one of his wooly buggers as it worked really well when he was In the park about a month ago for almost a week.  Often, he thought he saw fish, but after a few casts realized that they were just rocks on the that looked like trout, but he did get a few on a ginger colored wooly bugger!

After lunch he decided to concentrate on crackle backs, but only got one in his net, but had several “takes” so kept trying!

Tim did well on a variety of flies, zebra midge, yellow soft hackle, white wooly buggers.

They both fished behind the lodge and in the campground area, but will give this advice until they stark stocking again stay in the fly fishing only areas as the  “bait fishermen” have cleaned out the fish below the dam (unless you are (Kenny, Terry, Dave or Matt as they can find fish anywhere!)

The strangest part of the trip was driving down separately as we always have great conversations in the car since our hearing is not so great and we can actually hear each other!”
