I was very fortunate to have had parents that enjoyed spending time with my older brother and I fishing and camping growing up in the 1960s and 1970s! I learned to fish at Montauk State Park with a fly rod, but "looking back" the method my Dad used was really "a sophisticated cane pole" because we mostly used Velveeta cheese mixed with flour or plastic worms as bait. I used to think when I was little that he was best fisherman down there because he never had a problem catching his limit. He had an rod and tied a kite string to the end and tied a plastic worm to it and I would follow him round the park until I finally was old enough to fish myself. Since I met up with FATC and the knowledge that I have learned along the way I could probably out fish my father 5 to 1 even in his prime, but I think he would be glad! Montauk will always be my favorite place to fish and even though my Dad's soul went to heaven years ago I still look for him along the stream!
