Who wrote this first reply?  I’ve heard stories of an Oldani lurking these pages.  I sure wish I could find him again.  We used to have lots of fun fishing together.  :-). I want to do that again!

I was gifted the Dr. Slick Cyclone Nippers over a year ago.  They have remained sharp with no end in sight.  If they do get dull, they come with replacement blades.  All this for around $20 (if you find them on sale) and a bag of chips.  I got the model with the straight cutting face.  They also make a model with an off-set cutting face.

That was more than a flood.  That was devastating.  Oh no.

I love those words of inspiration.  They are so true and leave little room for not stepping up to do whatever we know would move us towards significance.   I often think of those words above when I hear that still small voice say, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. ‘” — Jeremiah 29:11.

Knowing I am the child of the King, what have I to fear from a challenge?  How can I not step up, and move forward with the challenge that is on my heart, especially when I know who put it there.

    As Dr. Heartsill Wilson wrote:
This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will.  I can waste it or use it for good.
What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.   When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be a gain, not a loss – good not evil. Success, not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it.

Now is not the time to think about moving towards significance, now is precisely the time to do so.  Like any journey, it starts with the first step.

Good advice.  My Falstaff wading staff is my third staff after trying two other brands over the year..  The other two were big brand names.  But, hands down, Falstaff is the easiest to use–by far!  I echo Lou recommendation, if you can find one, buy it!

    Hey Don,

I must admit I am a Rock Treads guy.  In fact, I have had them on G4 boots and liked them.  But, your question made me curious about other traction options so I looked up the studs/cleats on the Simms website.  You say you have a pair of G4 boots.  I saw on the bottom of the Simms studs/cleats page a notice that these are not compatible with  G4 boots.  Just wanted to throw that out there.  I hope the following link works.

    P.S.  I you don’t buy Ken’s Rock Treads, I just might.

It is very doable in our local waters (or most anywhere).  You have to get those weights just above the bottom so you are not setting the hook every time the weights tick the bottom.  It takes several drifts through an area to get your depth correct as you need to find the bottom, then shorten up your indicator until you are just above the bottom.  Although most of us did use the indicator, tight-lining this rig worked great for me as I could adjust the depth throughout every drift.

Update:  After being so excited about this bag, I thought I should share this.   On my first trip with it out west this month the axel broke.  Because I was a couple days past their 90 warranty when I reported it to Woot.com, my claim was denied.   Hope everyone else has better luck.

in reply to: When do you change a fly #26603

Interesting question, and some guys may answer it directly as you asked it.  But, let me start with this.  Not catching fish isn’t always a matter of changing flies.  I make it a point to keep track of time.  If after 20 minutes I am not satisfied with the action, I make changes that I think will improve my odds based on the conditions.  Yes, if I have lost confidence in my fly, I will change it.  But more often than not I will change my depth or change where I am fishing first.  Often, I find I am simply not deep enough.  Also, too often we beat the same water to death where the fish have been spooked or simply not active or not present.
