ParticipantBob,
Excellent question.
Once fish refuses fly and turns away immediately/quickly…Stop your indicator from drifting and strip back to feeding lane quickly. The technique sometimes will help make the fish strike. The KEY is quickly after refusal!
I’ll be interested in other techniques for fish refusal.Mike

ParticipantExcellent information guys. You have definitely help me with my floatant confusion. I have a better understanding on what type of floatant to use and on what specific fly to use it.
If anyone wants to add anything. I have open ears.
Thanks.

ParticipantHey Bill, if not a hassle bring book to the fly tying session tonight.
I have been reading 101 Trout Tips by Landon Mayer. Excellent read, not specifically for fly tying but, has some great fly pattern recipes, with fly fishing technique on the specific fly.
Thanks.

ParticipantHi Bill,
Great question. Always looking for new midge patterns to try out.
I pulled out my microscope, and tried tying a few size 24 & 26 yong special midges. Great western fly, thought why not try on our wonderful streams of the Midwest.

ParticipantFloated the eleventh point about 40 years ago, never fished it. I do recall the river’s water had a turquoise color almost ocean color liked. Very scenic river. I would be very interested in going back for a fly fishing float trip.
I provided a link from the USDA forest service with details on the Eleventh Point National Scenic River.
Maybe, this could be our first float for the FATC kayak team that has been discussed in the past?https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recreation/fishing/recarea/?recid=21676&actid=43

ParticipantHi Bill,
I’m not sure about the calendar. I did receive a email that all rods Bob had available are sold. That could be the reason it’s not on the calendar, items sold fast. I was hoping Bob would make his Sweetgrass Bamboo rod available. Bob are you listening??
I hope this helps you Bill.
Take care.

ParticipantI respect people opinions. Who am I to judge. The writer has a job to do and, the writer can put words down on any certain subject. It’s the writer’s opinion on how/what direction the story/article takes. How we receive the words is totally personal.
Since you ask. I had neither a negative or positive feeling about this article or video. I have no control over how others feel or perceive other traditions, camaraderie, etc… Everyone is entitled to their on opinions. This is what in my opinion makes America great. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but in my OPINION… ..Missouri is a hidden secret in the fly fishing community. I’m perfectly fine in keeping it that way. Again, I can’t control others on others OPINIONS!?
Who’s ready to go fishing in my beautiful home state of Missouri??MOfishMO
ParticipantHi Tim,
Absolutely, I’m interested in a catching a carp on the fly. It’s on my bucket list to do this summer. I tried a couple times last summer, no luck. Thanks for the info on the video series.
I’ll been interested if anyone would like to share some locations where it would be best to catch carp on the fly? Tim with your research what are the names of flies that work best for carp and technique?
Tim you peaked my interest to get on the water to do some Carpin on the fly.?Take care.

ParticipantHi Rick,
Beautiful part of the country! Outstanding looking photos.
What was the one hot fly used on the South Platte and Cheeseman? Best technique used?
I love Cheeseman, the Canyon is gorgeous looking but, the boulders made it very challenging for me.How did your new TFO workout?
Glad you had a great time. Thanks for posting!

ParticipantJohn,
Take the Rosati exit from I-44 (exit #203). Turn right on the south outer road to Rosati. Take Hwy KK south through town for 3 miles or so. When KK curves sharply left, you find Brennan Rd. / CR 3620 on your right in the crook of that curve. Follow that road for a bit and turn left onto Besmer.
Once on Besmer, the first parking area you’ll come to is “Cardiac Hill”.

ParticipantMy preferred 6 flies list for Spring in our beautiful state of Missouri. The list would change in a different state or a different season.
1. Midge
2. Scuds
3. Formerly Known As Prince Nymph
4. Hare’s Ear Soft Hackle
5. Zonker
6. Any foam pattern fly. I prefer a foam Caddis. Gotta have a dry dropper. I prefer something foam for my dry dropper. Can you tell, I’m not a dry fly elitist.?
