ParticipantBill,
Thanks for sharing. Very interesting article.
I have always wondered with all the browns stocking the MDC have done over the years in that section of the Meramec. Why the browns do poorly acclimating to the Meramec. I’ll be interested to get others thoughts?
Hopefully the MDC will figure it out one day.

ParticipantBill everyone you mentioned are great. I like how Tim Cammisa with Trout and Feathers does his fly tying videos, very informative!

ParticipantBob,
I look forward to hearing about your research. I appreciate you sharing.
You brought up a good subject about fly rod wt. when salt fishing on the fly. I’m sure it depends on the type of fish your after. But, what is an all around fly rod wt. when fishing the salt for example like a 5wt for trout fishing? I have a 8wt Sage Accel with a Waterworks-Lamson Litespeed 8-9 reel purchased a few years back from your buddy Tommy H. You think this would handle the majority of fish on the salt?
I look forward to hearing any opinions from the group.
Happy 4th!

ParticipantLou, excellent topic for discussion. The internet is loaded with pros & cons of Catch & Release. My rule of thumb when practicing catch & release is, fish barbless hooks, use a net, keep fish in water and hands free release as much as possible.
I do have a link I keep in my favorites to refer back to ever once in awhile. It’s from the National Park Service.

ParticipantGlenn, excellent discussion. I always try to get the fish on the reel as quickly as possible. My reason for this is…I’m more comfortable fighting the fish on the reel then trying to strip line in with a fish on. It is easier for me on the reel then trying to coordinate my excess line from getting tangled on something while bringing in the fish.
This brings us to your next question, on how much drag to use when you have a fish on the reel. I usually keep my drag set where it is easily for me to pull line off the reel without much resistance. Then at this point with a fish on the reel. I use my finger to play drag. If it is a big fish where I can’t control with my finger. I can quickly use my other hand to tighten the drag. This barely happens for me, but thinking I have a game plan when/if ever the big one get’s on.?
I look forward to reading others opinions.
Tightlines!
P.S. I always listen to Sid. He knows his stuff!
