ParticipantHi Bill,
I recommend Moonshine Rod Company. Check out their link: http://www.moonshinerods.com
I purchased The Epiphany-3wt.-10’6”-downlocker ESN rod. Like you I was researching different mid-price range euro-rods towards the end of last year. I researched the trident shootout prior to my purchased and their shootout was informative but, they left out a lot of other quality rods out of their shootout. I’m extremely happy with The Epiphany from Moonshine. In my opinion the Epiphany is extremely sensitive compared to other higher price euro rods, which is important in a euro rod. The components of the rod has the same quality as the higher priced rod. It is a rather new rod company and the owner spent his time answering all my questions on his company’s rods. In fact Moonshine Rod Company gave us (FATC) 50% off discount for three rods to be auctioned at this past year charity dinner. I believe Kenny won one of the discounts and purchased The Epiphany euro rod. Maybe, he will chime in on his opinion on the Epiphany.
Good luck in your decision. I found purchasing a euro nymphing specific rod has definitely helped greatly with this technique.

ParticipantNo snickers by me. I appreciate you sharing the 2 bead system for weight. I’m going to incorporate this system into my fly tying when needing extra weight to get the flies down in the water column. I have used a plastic florescent colored bead behind a tungsten bead as a hot spot, instead of using thread or dubbing. It has worked well.
You were thinking ahead of the industry with the 2 bead system. I received the same email from FireHole about there hook-weight based system. Basically, similar to your suggestion of 2 beads. I have copy and paste FireHole email below for anyone interested.

Firehole Outdoors Hook-Based Weight Management System
Firehole Outdoors is pleased to announce the availability of the world’s first hook-based weight management system for the fly tying/fishing industry.
<p style=”text-align: center;”>Under development for the better part of five years, I am happy to present to you a system designed to give the fly tyer an easy and precise method to weight their flies. This system incorporates three components; a tungsten bead, a brass bug band, and a tungsten tear drop body. With nearly 600 available weight combinations ranging from 0.02 grams to 1.58 grams, the tyer is able to create the right combination for their specific needs. As you might imagine there is a lot to talk about with this system. To keep this email short and clean I have created an informational page as well as downloadable PDF documentation to explain the details, usage, and components. You can view the information and download the files by clicking the button below. I really encourage you to take a few minutes to read this document.</p>
Also, the 4.5mm ROUND tungsten stone has been released as part of this entire program. Note that the 4.5mm ROUND tungsten bead is offered in forty (40) piece packaging in order to maintain the same pricing across all sizes.Click here for full details of the Hook-based Weight Management System
As always, thank you for being part of what we are doing here at Firehole Outdoors. Deb and I appreciate you!
All the best,

ParticipantThanks Tim for the information about the Troutbitten Mono Rig. I have read many articles written by Domenick, but never much about the Mono Rig. His mono rig technique is very interesting and makes sense to me. We might have a new forum topic Euro Nymphing technique vs Mono Rig technique. Both techniques are similar but, the mono rig seems more versatile. The mono rig you’re able to fish dry flies, streamers, use of indicators, split shot, etc… using only monofilament line. Then again you can probably do the same with the euro rig, just making a longer leader. I have copied a link from the Troutbitten site, if anyone interested in the difference between euro nymphing and the mono rig.
Who needs expensive fly lines just use monofilament.? I could’ve saved spending $70-$80 on fly line. I’m needing a new 4wt fly line on my 4wt rod. The line is shot. I’m thinking about forgetting buying new fly line and using my 4wt rod as a mono rig set up. I know the mono rig probably wouldn’t interest everyone, especially the fly fishing purists. But, the mono rig intrigue me. Tim you introduced to me other fly fishing techniques to think about! ?
Tightlines on whatever method you choose.

ParticipantThanks for sharing Tim. I’m just learning the Euro/Tightline technique. I am like a sponge now trying to learn this technique. The orvis premier will definitely help with my learning curve.
BTW…I like your idea of reviewing the euro nymphing class mentioned to Kenny at the last zoom fly tying session. We need to lobby together for Kenny to repeat his euro class on zoom!

ParticipantThanks Tim for sharing the videos information. I never seen this technique on tying soft hackles. I’m definitely going to try, it looks easier this way and looks like it will make the hackle very durable on the hook.
