ParticipantThanks Tim for the information about the Troutbitten Mono Rig. I have read many articles written by Domenick, but never much about the Mono Rig. His mono rig technique is very interesting and makes sense to me. We might have a new forum topic Euro Nymphing technique vs Mono Rig technique. Both techniques are similar but, the mono rig seems more versatile. The mono rig you’re able to fish dry flies, streamers, use of indicators, split shot, etc… using only monofilament line. Then again you can probably do the same with the euro rig, just making a longer leader. I have copied a link from the Troutbitten site, if anyone interested in the difference between euro nymphing and the mono rig.
https://troutbitten.com/2018/01/10/what-is-euro-nymphing-and-what-is-the-mono-rig/Who needs expensive fly lines just use monofilament.? I could’ve saved spending $70-$80 on fly line. I’m needing a new 4wt fly line on my 4wt rod. The line is shot. I’m thinking about forgetting buying new fly line and using my 4wt rod as a mono rig set up. I know the mono rig probably wouldn’t interest everyone, especially the fly fishing purists. But, the mono rig intrigue me. Tim you introduced to me other fly fishing techniques to think about! ?

ParticipantHi Bill,
I recommend Moonshine Rod Company. Check out their link; https://www.moonshinerods.com/
I purchased The Epiphany-3wt.-10’6”-downlocker ESN rod. Like you I was researching different mid-price range euro-rods towards the end of last year. I researched the trident shootout prior to my purchased and their shootout was informative but, they left out a lot of other quality rods out of their shootout. I’m extremely happy with The Epiphany from Moonshine. In my opinion the Epiphany is extremely sensitive compared to other higher price euro rods, which is important in a euro rod. The components of the rod has the same quality as the higher priced rod. It is a rather new rod company and the owner spent his time answering all my questions on his company’s rods. In fact Moonshine Rod Company gave us (FATC) 50% off discount for three rods to be auctioned at this past year charity dinner. I believe Kenny won one of the discounts and purchased The Epiphany euro rod. Maybe, he will chime in on his opinion on the Epiphany.
Good luck in your decision. I found purchasing a euro nymphing specific rod has definitely helped greatly with this technique.

ParticipantDan great question. I copy and paste the Trout Permit regulation from the MDC website. I look forward to someone confirming my interpretation of the regulation? A trout permit/stamp is not needed in the blue ribbon sections of rivers only when you have trout in possession.

ParticipantCorrection; ribbon sections of rivers only when you have possession of trout for example on a stringer.
Now that sounds better, hit submit too quickly in my last response.?

ParticipantHi John,
I have a large size Redington wader and size 12 wading boots my son has grown out of. Not sure if they would fit. If that doesn’t work. I have a bunch of hip waders in different sizes. The hip waders were generously donated by the FATC to use with TMP kiddos mentoring projects.
Your welcome to borrow. Just let me know if it works for you?

ParticipantHi Dan,
I usually replenish bead size 5/64” (2mm) & 3/32 (2.4mm) frequently. I’m always looking for deals on slotted tungsten beads in gold, nickel and copper for my euro flies in this size beads. I tend to have a love affair for the smaller flies in size 18, 20, 22, 24 & 26. I have better luck catching fish with the smaller flies with smaller bead size. My feeling is a moderate sinking fly in the water column gives a better natural drift look to the fly when using the euro nymphing technique. Again, as you stated it depends on the water conditions and water type your fishing.
I sometimes eliminate a bead for my euro flies and use unleaded wire. But, you have to be careful using wire because you don’t want to create too much bulk in the fly.
I hope this is helpful for you.
Take care!
Mike
