Thanks Bob. It’s always a great reminder to change flies and or at least size.

Great tip. Here’s another technique in case you forget your grippers or rubber gloves. This is the same technique my father taught me when I was a teenager.

It appears that Jim may be catching up to Kenny on # of rods. Isn’t there some kind of law on how many rods you can have in your possession?

I always use approx. 3~5ft of Flourocarbon Tippett. I’ll use a mono leader, but flouro tippet in MO waters. I personally would stay away from dulling the Tippett, especially flouro. Rio, SA, Orvis, etc research & engineer their line to be as invisible as possible. I would think that if dull flouro was better then they would manufacture it that way. I believe part of the clear / shiny attributes of flouro tippet is light passes through it and or refractory properties to make it as invisible as possible. If fishing waters with extremely spooky wild trout then a guide I used recently in CO recommended a flouro leader and flouro tippet. In MO waters and especially the trout parks then you should be able to save a few bucks by using a mono leader and spend a little more on flouro tippet.

Opening day seems to be a tradition for many fisherman / families. I’ve talked to several people who grew up as little kids going to opening day and continue participate annually and now have introduced their own kids. A passing of the tradition through the family tree. Although it’s not something I get involved in because of the crowd, I have to be honest I went a couple years along time ago to mostly just watch the chaos and laugh at all the tangled lines. It’s actually hilarious. It’s just one day of the year and the DOC prepares for it and overstocks the river for fish to be taken. I don’t think it gives Missouri rivers an overall bad rap. Anybody that has knowledge of the Trout Parks or does a little research knows to stay away this day if it isn’t their style. The fact that they charge a fee for a Trout tag and you need a MO fishing license offsets the cost involved I would think. I guess it also starts the year off on a profitable note for the campground, store, lodge etc. Think of how many flies, stringers, misc stuff they sell. I guess everyone needs to make a buck. Who knows, maybe the whole thing is a big conspiracy in that the fish cleaning grinder disposal fills up fast and the state is charging a premium dollar for this fish fertilizer and some corrupt politician is pocketing the money? Hmmm… Could that really happen?

I have purchased a like new Sage ZXL through an EBay seller. I suggest contacting the seller and asking additional questions especially on higher price items. In my case by contacting the seller I was able to find out that the rod was in excellent condition, more photos were sent to me and the rod had only been used a couple times.

When the water is high I typically fish from zip lines.
