I’ve only heard about fly fishing in New Zealand, but that might make the top of my list.  Perhaps a future FATC trip?

I’ve used an electric fillet knife on fish in the past. They’re great for larger fish. They cut through the rib cage easily, and save the edge of my fillet knife. For smaller fish, I use a standard fillet knife; small walleye, northern, and panfish. I don’t have a rechargeable, but that will be my next choice when I replace my electric.

    I hope this helps.

    John,

I’m so sorry to hear about your friends, their families, and your struggles. About 12 years ago, I lost one of my best friends (Rich) to cancer. Watching him slip away as the cancer took him was tough. He was the best man at my wedding and joined me on many IL, WI, and Canadian fishing trips. The first few trips without him were tough, but as time passed, I found myself thinking about him every time I was on the water. I enjoy my silent moments with him now. Thinking about all the times we had together on the water and in life. I too, know that Rich will be waiting with a pole for me one day and we’ll go out and catch some lunkers together.

    Peace, Ken

Don, I have a set of rock treads that I used once. I removed them from my first pair of boots (long story)  and still have them. I bought new Korkers and they have a replaceable sole w/cleats that I bought, so I don’t need the Rock Treads anymore.  The Rock Treads were fairly simple to install. If needed, I’ll make you a sweet deal on these. You can get them from me to see if they will work on your boots. I’d be happy to help you install as well.   Ken

Kenny, Thanks for the information. I will try a few of these at a nearby pond, or the next time I’m bass fishing.

Kenny,  As this email hit my computer, I was literally sitting at my desk practicing my knot tying. I’d been having trouble with knots the last trip and wasn’t 100% sure I was tying them correctly. Off to the the FATC website to refresh myself on the Double Surgeons and Double Davy. While I had been tying both correctly, I realized my technique needed some work.  By the way do you recommend the double version of these knots in most instances? I’ve even seen some suggestions for a triple surgeon knot.

Beautiful area. I’ve vacationed in Ludington, just south of Manistee many times and fished Hamlin Lake and Bass Lake near Pentwater to the south. There are a lot of bait and tackle shops in the area that should be able to help. Have fun. Check out Ludington State Park, great beaches and hiking there.

Kenny, thanks. I would love to try a demo or two. Do you have these rods and what is the process to get a demo?
