Ha! No, not at all!  Of all the rabbit holes for me to go down, it was this or the Tenkara hole. 🙂

Yeah, I did come across that review.  Seems like those guys liked that rod.  I’m hopeful that I can repurpose one of my extra spools for my Lamson reel that I use on my 5wt to get started.  I’d rather not buy a new reel right away.

Awesome Jim, thanks for your feedback. I’ve done some additional research this evening which also seems to echo what you have experienced.  There don’t seem to be any bad choices here, but I think I’ll take your advice.

oh so many more questions to come 🙂

    Thanks!

I ended up taking Steve’s suggestion after I figured out where my leak was. Tried them out on Taneycomo last weekend and was pretty happy with them.  They fit well, kept me dry, the pockets are great.  Pretty pleased with them.  Hopefully I can get 5 or 6 years out of them.

I will probably still try to repair my other pair, just to hopefully have a spare set of waders.

I have been to Blue Springs probably 5 times. I finally saw fish this last time but couldn’t catch anything. I guess I’ll keep trying.

I did swing by Crane Creek on our way back from Branson this weekend.  I wasn’t planning to fish, but I saw some in the creek so I rigged up and walked away with #3 from the list

The problem with being a fat guy is that it takes 75 gallons of water to fill a leg.  But I found the leaks.

It’s right where the seam of two pieces of neoprene attach to the wader legs. If it were further down, it would be an easy fix. But I wonder if I can just reinforce right up to the edge of the neoprene and aquaseal the rest of it.  Either way, I think these are done being my primary waders as fall and winter come.  Last thing I want to deal with in the winter is leaky waders.

Kenny, I’ll give this a shot too.  Thanks for the suggestion.  I now sort of suspect that maybe the seam taping on the booties is having issues.  I’ve already done extensive repairs on the booties before (see the thread about Rock Treads from a few days ago….)

Jim’s suggestion for inserts is key.  I had to learn how to repair the booties because I didn’t do this….

What is the House of Payne fly?

I have never had any luck with the bugger until recently. In fact, I held those who swore by it with a great deal of skepticism.    However, the last 2 times I’ve fished there, I caught a few fish by casting it 45 degrees upstream and stripping it back as it moved downstream.  This was in the riffle area just downstream from the powerline cut.  Caught only one at the top end, but 3 hammered it at the bottom end.

The only thing I did different was used a larger fly.  This one is tied on a size 4 hook, whereas the others I had were only a size 10 or 12.

I also tried with the same bugger in the Blue hole and didn’t have any luck there.  I tried just letting it sink and swing through, as well as stripping it.  I couldn’t get anything to take it there.  The last few times I’ve not had any luck at the blue hole.

I didn’t get out like I had hoped either. I found myself with some time on the Sunday before Valentines day.  My son was off and willing to go.  I gave him the choice of either Montauk or Bennett Springs.  He chose Bennett, so to Bennett we went.  Unfortunately, the wind kicked up a little while we were there, and it was getting difficult to beat the chill even though we were both layered up pretty well.  My son managed to catch a trout and a sculpin of all things.  I ended up with 3 in the net.

I’ll count the day as a win on many fronts!

    Thanks Kenny.

I was on 28, and it was stocked. I could see a few rising and a few were being caught around the lake but not many .

But the rises were  a bit further out than I could cast with the rod I was using. Maybe I’ll go back out with heavier rod that will launch the streamers better and just work the bugger/leach patterns.

I just tied up some articulated leaches that came from a subscriber box that I’ve been getting. Maybe that will do the trick…

and then a couple of mohair leaches for something a little more complicated.

I don’t know if my wallet is ever going to recover from this…..
