Hi, Tim, the Daiichi 1760 heavy curved hook may work for you. It is 2x long and 2x heavy. It has a slight bend that I think would make a nymph look lifelike. I found it at J Stockard.

It’s a tradition to some, a party to others. It isn’t just the opener for many people and it is a put and take fishery, to begin with. As long as those people want to pay it is fine with me. I would much rather fish outside the park during that time of year anyway. I recently asked the question on the North American Fly Fishing Forum, Where should I go for the best year-round fishing in the US. Most of the answers came back to Missouri-Arkansas border. With our Streams and tailwaters. It would be hard to beat. Just don’t tell anyone.

I just recalled a conversation about carp fishing Creve Coeur Lake so there is another option.

Me too, I think carp would be a blast. I caught one, years ago on a dry fly. The carp flies I have seen look a lot like Kenny’s euro nymphs, but nicer.

I have been following your suggestion for using the tippet rings this spring and it is definitely a great way to save money on leaders while nymphing and I don’t see why you couldn’t do the same with a nine-foot leader for dry fly fishing. Add the ring and then three feet of tippet to the fly. I was also reading about removing the shine from your tippet while dry fly fishing. How would you do that without harming your tippet? I seem to recall them selling a “Mud” that was made of clay. You would rub a small amount on the tippet and remove the shine but don’t recall seeing any in the catalogs. I probably have some clay laying around from my potters days but it has other materials mixed in.

Kenny, I have the Korker Darkhorse boots with BOA system and love them but have only used them a dozen times. I was hesitant to get them until I read a lot of reviews and had a strong recommendation from a fellow member. Most of the reviews came down on the side of the Korker boots. As you stated Simms must have something wrong with their design. At this point, I have nothing to complain about the Korkers and recommend them.

To top it off Tim Flagler’s “How to Tie a Parachute Hendrikson” Has another method to tie a post without using thread. I found it on MidCurrent’s free newsletter.

There are several YouTubes on spinning and stacking deer hair. I know there are tools for stacking deer hair, which is spinning deer hair in front of previously spun deer hair and then pushing it together, packing it tighter getting ready to trim it for bass bugs or streamers. The tool is used to keep from your hand slipping and sticking a hook into your finger and ruining your fly with blood.

I had attempted to post links to a couple of videos on shortcuts for tying parachute post but they apparently can’t be pasted. Try Orvis One Minute Tips. Both of them were pretty good ideas.

Again with the Czeching and Poling. Stockard is having their own beads and things sale this month. I had ordered some Copper 2 mil beads from Allan but they ran out so I will have to order some from Stockard or pick them up at Feather-Craft.

Hi Michael, I had a post in the forum asking if anyone had fished Michigan. Where about Michigan do you fish, what rivers and streams do you fish. Have you fished for trout other than Steelhead?

I received a notice that Feather Craft is now carrying some of the Firesticks from Firehole Outdoors. I plan on picking up some scud hooks from them. They have some Czech style hooks.

Try Firesticks by Firehole Outdoors They have some great barbless competition style hooks. $10.00 for 50. They are made in Japan or South Korea and chemically sharpened. Firehole is a new company and still building their brand and inventory along with the styles of hooks in their line up. You can also buy them a J Stockard and Fly, Fish, Food. Along with other makers but the biggest bang comes from the Firesticks.
