    Hi, Steve,

I have fished the Current at and below Two Rivers where the Jacks Fork enters the Current and it gets big down in that area. Fishing without a boat would be tough I feel. Why don’t you try the Jacks Fork River? It is well known for its Smallmouth fishing and should be fun fishing with a fly rod. Crayfish, streamers, and Woolybuggers would be the flies to use.

    Hi Jim,

I have used the peacock quills a couple of times, soaked and unsoaked. I think it helps to soak them a little, 15 minutes is what I did and it seemed to work but remember that peacock is kind of delicate to begin with so keep a steady hand. You can also get synthetic quills that are sturdier but wheres the fun in that.

I fished in Yellowstone years ago and honestly can’t give you any tips other than you should be there at the right time to fish Hoppers. I would be looking for prairie rivers and streams and smaller creeks where you can fish those hoppers. The smaller less popular streams may also help avoid the crowds. That may be hard considering your in a group of 6. Good luck everyone and have a great trip.

I am fairly sure the regulations for the Blue Ribbon areas are denied by the Fly definition. Which is a single hook lure.  I think the Red Ribbon areas allow treble hooks. I feel trebles hooks shouldn’t be allowed anywhere, I have seen people trying/snagging trout on the Current. they said it was by accident but if you watch them “set” the hook repeatedly on the same hook you know their lying.

Have any of our members had the opportunity to test cast these new rods? I am curious if they cast like the Sage One.

We have few lakes in Missouri that can sustain trout all year long which is why you only find them in the winter after the Conservation department stocks lakes across the state. You can still fish for Bluegill and Bass if it’s close to your home. Your lightest rod like the Five weights most of us have work fine and if your lucky and you find a motherload of “GILLS’ your in for a treat and if a nice size bass grabs hold of your fly on that light rod it will get your heart thumping. We should try to do more warm water fishing. it is readily available to us and close to home.

    MofishMo,

It is possible that the fisherman was using a Roostertail. He may not have wanted to show it because it had a treble hook which is illegal. Sometimes people don’t want to share their secret fly. However, you can buy a spinner on a wire loop, or just a spinner by itself to slide on the leader. You place a bead on the line, then the spinner, followed by another bead then tie on the fly.

In Missouri, as long as the lure only has a single hook (not a treble hook) it is considered a fly. It is easy to attach a spinner to fly. I have used them in the past when fishing for Bluegill. I choose not to when trout fishing.

If the report we heard from an unofficial non-elected official of Montauk State Park is accurate the hatcheries are busting at the seams. Why not start stocking some of those fish in the parks in preparation for the reopening of the parks instead of cleaning them out?

I believe concentration has a good deal to do with an individual’s success on-stream. Assuming you read the water right and look for signs of what the fish are eating that day, your ability to concentrate pays off.

I have read of people tying loop knots on jigs and nymphs and tying dry flys on the line sideways so they will skitter. I think most people just use regular Knots like the Davy knot and Clinch knot because they are easier and quicker to tie. I don’t worry too much about it since I only fish for the stupid trout anyway.

I get your confusion. I gave up and just bought a medium Pardo Tailing Pack. I believe you can buy larger quantities if you use a lot of them. I like the way they look when tied on a fly.
