ParticipantAm I expecting too much? I purchased a pair of Simms G4 wading boots in the spring of 2023, so I’ve had them for approximately 2 years and probably fished 100-110 days in that timeframe. I’m noticing that the sole of the boots are separating from the foot along the outside edge. Is it normal for these boots to fall apart that quickly? Is it worth having the boots repaired by simms or just use some aquaseal to repair them myself and start shopping for a new pair. Any suggestions for a better replacement pair. I’d like a pair that is lighter weight and more durable.

KeymasterTo be honest, my experience with boot longevity has been similar to yours. In my experience, boots just don’t last that long. At least not as long as waders do. I think I get about two years out of my boots. But I feel your pain. You would think the top of the line Simms boots would last say 3 to 5 years. But speaking of unusual wear, I know several guys in FATC, including me, who are experiencing the upper parts of their Simms boots wearing out much sooner than expected. Quite disappointing. Regarding your question about Simms repairing the boot sole, I have found it cheaper to have a local shoe repair shop repair my boots.

KeymasterSteve,
I am right with Jim on this one. I wear Simms boots (usually the top of the line) and I too have been finding out that are lasting me 2-3 years. NOT what you would expect from their top of the line boot. I am disappointed but try to never pay their top price. I just purchased another pair (thanks to Matt McClure) on Sierra Trading Post that DID have my size available. I bought the latest G4s for $200 vice $500!!!
As Jim said my uppers have not faired so well either. I had the soles detach at around 2 years and “upper” design that they put on the boots have parts coming off. With your boots, Jim’s boots and my boots coming apart at such an early time (or at least what I feel is too early) I think I will call Simms and complain to them. The least I can do as Chairman of the largest fly fishing organization in Missouri. Maybe they will listen? ANYONE ELSE HAVING ISSUES WITH THEIR SIMMS BOOTS LET ME KNOW – [email protected]
