Gentlemen,
What are you’re favorite brands of sharp hooks for the price? It’s seems to me that $13 for 25 hooks is the going rate. Stayed up way to late last night looking at hooks and prices. The three brands that I have tied with are Eagle Claw, Umpqua, and Daiichi. Eagle claw, I don’t care for them at all. Umpqua, their Super Point I really like but they don’t make them in all sizes. Umpqua other hooks are decent but not great. Daiichi standard hooks are decent/ok. I bought those first when I first started tying. My other questions are Gamakatsu hooks and style? My friend/Guide from Colorado really likes use them and Mustad. Surfing the net I clicked upon Hañak Hooks. Has anyone tried or Hañak?
On Side note JCook Fly shop in Salem Mo has $.69 flies. Not the Best but not bad for the price if you’re in Jam.
Thanks,
Purps

Try Firesticks by Firehole Outdoors They have some great barbless competition style hooks. $10.00 for 50. They are made in Japan or South Korea and chemically sharpened. Firehole is a new company and still building their brand and inventory along with the styles of hooks in their line up. You can also buy them a J Stockard and Fly, Fish, Food. Along with other makers but the biggest bang comes from the Firesticks.

I received a notice that Feather Craft is now carrying some of the Firesticks from Firehole Outdoors. I plan on picking up some scud hooks from them. They have some Czech style hooks.

Although it has passed, every winter J. Stockard Fly Fishing online has 15% off on all hooks. That’s when I buy mine. Usually Tiemco (barbless if I can get them) but I agree with Bill, a new company, Firesticks, has some pretty nice barbless, competition hooks for a great price. These are the hooks I use for Czech nymphing (because I am Czech you know!).

Kenny,
So, exactly how do we address you now? Would that be The Great “Czech” Sensei?
