We are tying sow bugs this week in our fly tying session. Is this fly weighted or is it a surface bug?
I understand they aren’t very good swimmers so they can be fished either with weights and bead-headed flies are ok. Fish them as you would a scud but you can strip scuds but shouldn’t strip sow bugs.

Thanks Bill, I watched the Tightline video, re-watched it and re-watched it again and again. Finally picked-up that the fly is fished subsurface behind a weighted nymph. What had me fooled, I am a little slow, the fly was being tied on a dry fly hook. See you Thursday evening.
Hi Tim, I hunted up a video on the life cycle of scuds and sowbugs. This is part of a series I find useful.

Excellent video. Very helpful. Thanks for sharing Bill!
I recommend watching all of the videos in the series. They are pretty informative.

Really good! Thanks Bill!
Thanks for the share. I’m going to watch.
