ParticipantFATC Brothers,
I’ve been thinking about getting a sling pack and thought I’d ask you all about the pros and cons versus a fly vest that I should consider. Sensi gave me his wisdom by phone recently, but I’d thought I’d throw the question out to the rest of you. At this point I am leaning towards the Fishpond Summit Sling. I think my kids are trying to purchase one for Father’s Day for me so your input would be greatly appreciated.

ParticipantMartin,
I have owned n used the various waist packs, vests, and have now settled on a sling pack. I think any of the makes like Simms, Patagonia, or Fishpond work well.
One thought, dont get one that is too big. Big means u will pack more weight into it and that causes back pain. Pack lighter and u will feel better at the end of the day.Bob Beckett

ParticipantBob,
Thanks for the advice on the sling pack. How do these sling packs work with your landing net? I currently have the magnetic release for my net on my vest, but it looks like the sling just has a built in sleeve for the handle to slide in. At first glance it seems that it would get in the way of your casting arm (I’m right handed). Any advice on this point?Martin

ParticipantMy sling has a d ring on the strap that is begind ur back. My net has the magnetic attachment on the basket end and the handle hangs down behind my right arm. Never in the way of my casting arm, just reach behind my back n grab the handle. I attach the end of the lanyard on the net to my wading belt so that the net is always attached to me. Works pretty slock.

ParticipantBob,
Thanks for the additional information on the landing net attachment. Sounds like you have no issues there and that is good to hear. Thanks again for all you feedback on this.
