Does it matter what brand of resin to use and how bright the UV light is? Also the glue types do I need to have all three? The thin, thick, and flow for tying. I’m looking to buy it. I’m tired of dealing with and the smell of epoxy. Thanks any suggestion here guys?

I’m new to fly tying. But, I use loon UV fly finish (thick). No smell, easy to apply and spread, hardens quickly. It works great for me. I have a loon UV light but, feel it really does not matter how bright it is, just as long it’s a UV light.

      Hi PurpleHaze,
You can purchase the Solarez three pack Thick, Thin, and Flex inexpensively. The Solarez brand is one of the first UV type adhesives. I bought my light for $9.00 from Wal-Mart online. I think its original use was for locating bugs like scorpions and bedbugs. This is a cheaper alternative than the other options. You can check sites like Sierra Trading post for name brand products from time to time and they may have lights and UV products.

I have looked into UV lights because some are super expensive and others are much cheaper. Don’t fall into the trap that UV light spectrums on different flashlights are different they are not. After research I found that there are two different light spectrums in the UV area used in flashlights, both so close that it doesn’t matter. The UV light bought at Walmart, like suggested by bkbying89 and same one owned by me, is just as good as any other (only $10). I use the Loon UV Knot Sense and it has never failed me. It is liquid enough to be used in all circumstances and comes in an easy to carry and use tube.

BTW, you can even use the sun’s rays to cure the resin too.

I us the Solarez 3 pack. Got the UV flash-lite from Walmart. I like the Solarez because it dries clear and tack free. Some UV dries tacky and then will cloud up. If that happens you can apply a coat of Hard as Nails.

I recently read “UV Resin Shootout” on Fly Fish Food. http://www.flyfishfood.com/2015/10/uv-resin-shootout.html?m=1

I thought it a good read. I hope this will help.
