I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! I have been doing some extra research/learning on our passion for fly fishing. Especially, now with the extra time we have because of the pandemic and self quarantine. I know in other states, mouse flies are deadly for big browns. I’m rather new to fly fishing and wondering if anyone has used mouse flies effectively on our home waters of Missouri? If you have, please share your knowledge on best time of year for mouse flies, technique on fishing them, size, color, pattern material, type of water to use, etc…??
Thank you!Mike

Mouse flies are also great for bass. Don’t limit your fly fishing to just trout. The Morrish mouse is easy to tie and floats well. Land your mouse right up against the shore and give it some jerky swimming motion as your mouse tries to race (swim) to the other side of the shore. I’d tend to throw in the evening hours. Make sure your using at least 2x-3x tippet and hang on.

I nominate the Morrish mouse for our next fly tying session.

Why not use a weighted mouse trap baited with cheese. Of course you would be limited to the bait only area.

Okay, okay, The Moorish mouse fly pattern. I watched two video’s on this fly pattern. The result was my going to my fly tying room and inventorying my Elk hair. I have about 20 pounds long Elk hair are enough for 1 fly.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on mouse flies. It looks like I will be adding a new fly pattern to my box.
Yes, hopefully we can try the moorish mouse pattern on one of our Thursday evening fly tying session. Not sure about the weighted mouse trap with cheese pattern. But, I’m willing to try!?LOL
Tightlines.
