Forum Home › Fishing Travel › Lower Michigan,
I have some family members that have recently purchased homes in Boyne City on Lake Charlevoix and they mentioned that the Steelhead were starting to run up the Boyne River and last fall there was a Salmon run in the same stream. Out of curiosity, I started digging around online about fishing, mostly trout, within an hour to an hour and a half ride from there. Michigan has a lot of trout water with some 800 odd miles of blue ribbon water. A good few of these are within that hour and a half drive of Boyne. Michigan has very friendly rules that give a lot of access to the fisherman. A couple of the streams you might have heard of are the Manistee and the Au Sable. There is also fishing for Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Pike. Have any of you fished Michigan?
