Just read about the recent Kayak adventure on the trips page. I’m interested in purchasing a fishing kayak. Any advise on type, stability, comfort, brand, length, paddle preference, useful accessories, etc…I’m hoping for as much details anyone willing to provide.
Thank you!

I’ve been seriously interested in a fishing kayak since I read the trip report. In addition to the information MO is looking for, I’d would love to hear about the best places to go (put in/take out/fish).
Thanks

There is a wealth of information on the internet. Like most things you typically get what you pay for. Four top fishing kayak brands you may want to look into are Wilderness, Vibe, Jackson, Hobie. Definitely want to look at a sit on top vs sit in. Also a good comfortable seat is very important. For river use a 12 foot range is ideal.
Any of the Blue, Red, White Ribbon MO rivers are ideal for trout and small mouth. We are blessed that MO has some outstanding trout rivers to float. Just kayaked Baptist Camp to Cedar Grove this past weekend. A great full day float that allows you to fish from kayak and/or stop many times along the way and wet wade fish. If you want more info please feel free to call me.

I was hoping for Spooner to chime in with his expertise in kayaking!
Thanks Matt for the offer to contact you for more information! I’ll plan to take you up on that. I haven’t had a Spooner’s encounter in awhile.?

Hi everyone,
See if you can find the book “Ozark Waterways” It was the bible for floating Ozark streams. In general, it listed put in and takeout points and had maps with mileages marked off with brief descriptions of each river. We used to use it a lot when checking out some rivers.
