Hey everyone,
My wife and I are headed to Old Fort NC, which I understand is pretty close to Asheville next month. I’m hoping for a couple of days to fish and looking to set up a couple of days with a good guide that knows the area well.
Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

North Carolina has some awesome fly fishing. One of our long time FATC members lives in Blowing Rock, NC which is about an hour or so from where you will be fishing. Contact Dave Beerbower at dab.safety@gmail.com. Dave may be able to fish with you. He’s always looking for someone to fish with…..

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Kenny is right about the fly fishing here, but right now, the fishing is slow because of warm water temps. You are welcome to come up to Blowing Rock, but you will have better luck going south towards Brevard or Cherokee. There are several fly shops in that area that can help you, but I have never used them.</p>

Brevard is a pretty easy 1 1/2 hr drive. Davidson River Outfitters are in the immediate area.. They have private water on the Davidson. My friends have fished it numerous times – obviously they like it. I have fished the Davidson numerous times immediately above Brevard along Hwy 276 and along Fish Hatchery Rd (about 5 mi from Brevard). There are several pullouts along the river and access and parking at the fish hatchery. There was (10 yrs ago) a fellow near Waynesville, Ron Gaddy, who I fished with who had a tremendous knowledge of the rivers in that area for fly fishing. He ran the Jonathan Creek School of Fly Fishing.
