What are your favorite fly rods to take to the above two parks.
When headed to Meramec I always like to take my 905 Radian. Outside the park you can be in a pretty good wind. It really handles this very well . I also like the way it easily transitions from indicator fishing to streamers. Inside the park, I can lengthen the leader and cast #20 BWO’s to rising fish. While a fast action rod, it has a very responsive tip. Love that 5 wt. rod.
At Montauk, my go to rod is a 486 Sage one. It can handle just about any way I choose to fish, Indicator, streamer, or dry. It has the lower section power to deal with the wind when it blows right down the water. The shorter length helps when you are on narrower portions of the stream.
Am sure that everyone with have “Their Favorite” but that is what this thread is all about. An opportunity to let everyone know what you like about your specific rods.

Good discussion topic. I usually don’t pick my rod for a specific location (I usually bring four rods on each trip). But I actually select the rod I will use by the water conditions, are the fish rising or not or just how I want to fish on this particular day.
If I’m going into a situation where I may throw bigger stuff – streamers, buggers, stoneflies. I’ll pick my rod that has a little more backbone – my Sage One, 9 foot, 5wt. The Sage One can also handle nymphing too.
If I’m going to dry fly, swing wet flies or fish small flies (even when nymphing) I really like my new 9 foot, 4wt, Orvis Helios 3F. Very sweet rod.
If I decide to nymph all day I’ll go with my Euro-nymphing rod. Mine is a Redington Hydrogen, 3wt, 10 foot. Euro-nymphing can get you into places that other techniques can’t. If there is a lot of pocket water or fast moving water I’ll load up my Hydrogen rod

I don’t have that many rods to choose from but my go-to all-around rod is my NRX LP. It does most everything well or better. My favorite rod to fish is the 8 1/2 foot 4 weight Sage Pulse for dry flies and honestly does well with Wooley-Buggers too. I have a Douglas six weight that I don’t use as much but if the wind picks up it is a good nymphing and streamer rod.

Bill,
At Montauk, if I know the wind will be down, I have a Winston WT 8′ 4 wt. that is just perfect for dry fishing. In fact, the feel of your LP reminds me of this rod a lot. Nice gentle presentations on the water are this rods forte!
I will usually bring two rods, one faster in case the wind is up and I need the extra umph to get my fly out there.

I actually like the Sage Pulse better than the LP if I run into the wind condition The faster action of the Pulse seems to cut the wind better.

Bill,
You fished my 4 wt. wind rod at Montauk. The 486 Sage One is “Go To” 4 wt. rod down there.
